The university’s history dates back to the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences, founded in 1971, formed by the merger of engineering and technical colleges in Geisenheim, Idstein, and Rüsselsheim, and the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Wiesbaden. In 2009, the university officially changed its name to “Rhinemann University of Applied Sciences and Arts” to reflect its deep roots and influence in the Rhine-Main region. In 2021, the university celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking half a century of outstanding development in higher education.
As an important member of the German universities of applied sciences, HSRM consistently emphasizes the close integration of practice-oriented teaching and applied research. The university currently has approximately 12,200 students and comprises five faculties: Architecture and Civil Engineering, Design-Computer Science-Media, Engineering, Applied Social Sciences, and Wiesbaden Business School. These faculties offer over 70 undergraduate and master’s programs, covering disciplines such as engineering, economics, sociology, and design.
In research, HSRM focuses on four key research areas, where professors and students collaborate to develop future-oriented sustainable solutions for businesses, governments, and social organizations. Furthermore, the university highly values internationalization, having established partnerships with numerous universities worldwide and actively collaborating with Chinese universities, including Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, promoting academic exchange between China and Germany. The university library, integrated from the Hesse State Library and various faculty libraries, houses over one million print media items and abundant electronic resources, providing students with excellent learning support.
