The university comprises four core faculties, offering 32 undergraduate and 14 master’s programs:
**Fachbereich Technik (Technical Faculty):** Located on the Emden main campus, this is the largest faculty, with approximately 1,700 students, nearly half of the student body. It covers fields such as electrical engineering and information technology, computer science, mechanical engineering, and natural sciences and engineering, emphasizing education on future-oriented issues such as digitalization, energy transition, sustainable development, and media technology. Its research capabilities are strong, with professors averaging €44,500 in third-party research funding, and 63.3% of undergraduate theses being completed in collaboration with industry.
**Fachbereich Seefahrt und Maritime Wissenschaften (Marine Sciences Faculty):** Located on the Leer campus, this faculty inherits the historical legacy of the Leer Maritime School founded in 1854. The undergraduate program in “Marine Science and Industrial Engineering” (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen Maritime Wissenschaften) offered by the faculty is highly distinctive, closely integrating engineering, economics, and the marine field. It covers topics such as fluid mechanics, marine propulsion systems, logistics, environmental engineering, and offshore technology, cultivating professionals for shipping companies, shipyards, offshore industries, and international logistics.
The Faculty of Economics (Fachbereich Wirtschaft): With campuses in Emden and Leer (Business Campus Leer), it offers practice-oriented courses such as “Engineering and Management: Industrial Engineering.”
The Faculty of Social Work and Health (Fachbereich Soziale Arbeit und Gesundheit): Graduates approximately 240 students annually, serving as a crucial base for the university’s applied talent development.
Innovation and Internationalization
The Emden/Lele University of Applied Sciences is a founding member of the “Virtual University of Applied Sciences” (VFH) and actively participates in the development of digital teaching networks. The university values international cooperation, having established partnerships with 73 foreign universities. The Technical College also offers an English-taught Master’s program in “Industrial Informatics,” providing an excellent learning environment for international students.
